M:So, what do you want to do tomorrow?
W:Well, let’s look at this city guide here. Uh, here’s
something interesting. Why don’t we first visit the art
museum in the morning?
M:Okay. I like that idea. After that, what do you think
about visiting the zoo?
W:Oh… umm…well…
M:Well, it says here that there are some very unusual
animals not found anywhere else.
W:Well, to tell the truth, I’m not really interested
in going there.
M:Really?
W:Yeah. Why don’t we go shopping instead? There are
supposed to be some really nice places to pick up souvenirs.
M:Nah, I don’t think that’s a good idea. We only have
few traveler’s checks left, and I only have fifty dollars
left in cash.
W:No problem. We can use your credit card to pay for
my new clothes.
M:Oh, no. I remember the last time you used my credit
card for your purchases.
W:Oh, well. Let’s take the subway down to the seashore
and walk along the beach.
M:Now that sounds like a wonderful plan.

M:Right, madam. What’s the problem?
W:Well, my car’s just stopped. I was driving along and
the engine cut out and it just stopped, and I can’t start
it again.
M:Er, what do you mean it stopped? Have you run out
of gas?
W:No, that’s not possible. I filled up last night and
I haven’t driven very far.
M:Right, is the battery working?
W:Well, I mean I think so. The lights are working and
the radio’s on and I’ve looked at it and it looks OK,
I think.
M:Hmm. Has it been raining?
W:Yes, it’s been pouring down.
M:Well, it could be distributor. Have you had a look
at that?
W:Oh, gosh, no. I’m not sure where that is. I never
touch things like that. Is it serious?
W:No, not really, but don’t worry. We’ll go there and have

M:Hi, Maria, how have you been?
W:Oh, not bad. And you?
M:Oh, I’m doing okay, but school has been really busy
these days, and I haven’t had time to relax.
W:By the way, what’s your course of study anyway?
M:Hotel management.
W:Well, what do you want to do once you graduate?
M:Uh… I haven’t decided for sure, but I think I’d like
to work for a hotel or a travel agency in this area.
How about you?
W:Well, when I first started college, I wanted to study
French, but I realized I might have a hard time finding
a job using the language, so I changed my course to computer
science. With the right skills, getting a job in the
computer industry shouldn’t be as difficult.
M:So, do you have a part-time job to support yourself
through school?
W:Well, fortunately for me, I received a four-year academic
scholarship that pays for all of my studies.
M:Wow. That’s great.
W:Yeah. How about you? Are you working your way through
school?
M:Yeah. I work three times a week at a restaurant near
campus.
W:Oh. What do you do there?
M:I’m a cook.
W:How do you like your job?
M:It’s okay. The other workers are friendly, and the pay
isn’t bad.

W:What time do you get up?
M:At 5:00 am.
W:Why do you get up so early?
M:Well, I have to leave home at twenty to seven so I
can catch a bus at 7:00 am. It takes me about twenty
minutes to walk to the bus stop from my house.
W:And what time do you get to work?
M:Uh, my bus takes about an hour to get there, but it
stops right in front of my office.
W:That’s nice. And what time do you get off work?
M:Uh, around 5:00 pm. Then, we eat dinner around 6:30
pm, and my wife and I read and play with the kids until
8:00 pm or so.
W:So, when do you work on your website? You said one
time that you created it at home?
M:Well, my wife and I often watch TV or talk until 10:00
pm. She then often reads while I work on my site, and
I sometimes stay up until the early hours of the morning.
but I try to finish everything by one or two.
W:And then you get up at 5:00 am?
M:Well, yeah, but it’s important to live a balanced
life. I enjoy what I do, but you have to set aside time
for your family and yourself.
W:I agree.
