A young man once wrote a long story and sent it to
a famous editor. After a few weeks the story was returned
to him. The young man was very angry. He wrote to the
editor,“Dear sir, yesterday you sent back my story. How
do you know the story is not good? You didn’t read it.
Before I sent you the story, I stuck pages 18, 19 and
20 together. This was a test to see whether you would
read the story or not. When the story came back yesterday,
the pages were still stuck together. Is this the way
you read all the stories sent to you?”The editor wrote
back,“Dear sir, at breakfast when I open an egg, I don’t
have to eat the whole egg to discover that it is bad.”
